Wonderful Jesse Tree

Welcome back to my blog! Today I will be sharing my work about the Jesse Tree. At our school there are 4 hubs. My hub is called Tumu which is year 5&6 but the very bottom hub is called Kakano which is year 1&2. The Tumu Hub will be sharing our learning about the Jesse Tree with Kakano. For this I have made a book and 3 colouring pages for Kakano. Here is what I have created.

Do you know what all these symbols mean?

The Widow And Her Coins

Kia Ora Bloggers! Today in RE we have been learning about The Widow And Her Coins. It will all be exlained in the scrit below.

All: Hello and welcome to channel 6 news!

Quinn: Today we have a news report about the widow and her coins. This is a story about a widow that gives all she has instead of just a little bit of money she wouldn’t notice is missing.

Sidney: One day Jesus was watching people put donations in the offering box when a poor widow came and put in 2 small coins.

Ruby: Jesus told his disciples to gather round. He said; this poor widow went and put in more than the others yet she only put in 2 small coins.

Quinn: She put in all she had, but the others put in a small amount of money they have just had in their pocket. People were probably watching and judging because she put in a small amount.

Sidney: The point of this is putting in more of what you have is more but putting in a small amount of what you have is a small amount.

Ruby: What are some ways we can be like the widow?

Quinn: If someone needs help and you want to go and play you should help them.

Sidney: If you see someone with something different or someone less fortunate than you don’t judge them just accept them.

Ruby: Don’t worry what other people think of you, just think good of yourself.

Quinn: Don’t be jealous of other people because you are you and you can’t be afraid to be yourself.

Sidney: Think of other ways you can be more like the widow and less like the people who judge.

Ruby: That was the gospel for this week. Have a great week, be kind and remember, don’t judge people for who they are!

Quinn: Bye and thanks for watching...

All: Channel 6 news!!!

Super Fun Lego Building

My favourite Lego activity was the car racing because it was fun to keep on going back and changing things up and me and Izzy won 2nd place. I also liked testing the car and the way we designed it and turned it into a long bus with tables and a spa.

My least favourite Lego activity was the tower building because it kept falling down and we didn’t know what strategy would work best for building the tower. At the end the tower fell down and we had no tower built for the end photo.

The activity that tested my perseverance the most was the tower building because it kept falling over and the strategies we were using didn’t work.

The most challenging activity was the car one because we had to keep changing it to make it work and at the end the car broke but we fixed it just in time and it started to come apart before the race but we made it work.

I enjoyed working collaboratively with others because I like working with new people and my friends are really easy to work with because we know what eachother likes and how to work together.

I get's rid of all the rubbish in the lake which is causing the unhealthy water. Here is the slide show of my idea. I hope you like it.

Terrific Tennis

I love tennis. But sometimes it can make me really tired. Just because I get tired doesn't mean I don't love tennis, but today there was something that made me want to stop half way through a game. Hot rays of sun were beating down on my face and all I wanted was to stop. But the thing is I was half way through a game, so I couldnt. I played one of my friends, Eden. She is super funny and super good at tennis. Sometimes I laughed because she just watched the ball go right past her and she didn't even try to hit it back to me, but sometimes she was really concentrated. Sometimes I liked it but sometimes it made everything a whole lot harder. As the sun was killing me and Eden was smashing me I wanted to stop the whole thing. But I couldn't. At one point it was something like 5-3. Then it was 5-4. Then Eden won. So in the end I lost 6-4. After that I didn't want to play another game of tennis. Before I played Eden, me and my Dad did some hits and he really made me run. I'm not that good at backhands so Dad made me do a lot. In the end I am just glad that one day of tennis is over, and there is only a million more to come. Do you play tennis?

Volcano

Kia Ora Bloggers! Yesterday me and my siblings made an explotion with water, vinegar, dish washing liquid and baking soda. First we put the water, vinegar, and dishwashing liquid in a bottle. Then we put baking soda and water in a bottle. Then we went over to the park in the far corner and put the baking soda slurry (baking soda and water) into the other mixture and stood back. We were quite disappointed at first, but then I decided to shake it, and then we were happy. It exploded everywhere up nice and high. It was awesome. Sorry, but I couldnt get the video, but it looked really cool. It looked a little like this, but in a milk bottle.

Have you ever made an explotion?

Would You Rather......?

Kia Ora Bloggers! My name is Quinn and today I am going to share with you my writing! It is about why out of a school and a computer, you should definitely be a computer! Here is why;

Would you rather be a school or a computer? Hi, my name is Quinn and I am going to tell you why you should definitely be a computer.

Would you rather be a school or a computer? Hi, my name is Quinn and I am going to tell you why you should definitely be a computer. First of all, being a school would mean seeing people argue or find out sad things, which yes, you can do that on a computer, but people share that information at school every day, so it is really sad to be a part of that, since you can see all over the grounds. Now think about being a school and having people stand and jump all over you, all day. Ouch. Plus, being a computer, you can make something wrong with it, and then shut yourself down. Then you can relax and have a good rest. And when the user of the computer is watching things like YouTube or Netflix, you can watch it too. But when you are at school, all you can watch is the education videos, or kids working and playing, which can get very boring. Also, being a computer means that you can have fun. Know what is happening in people's life from what the user looks at. But as a school you can only find that out from people talking about it. You can't find out new information except when people share it with each other at school. Being a computer, means you can be taken away, see the world. And use google maps to find new things out. Reset and start fresh. Kick the user off pages as a joke. And, schools at some point have to get smashed down. That means you die and all your great and fun memories. Computers can download pictures and keep them safe. Be put on other devices and kept safe forever. The only school memories are from pictures and people. In conclusion being a school, means being knocked down and losing memories. But when you are a computer, you can download them and keep them safe forever! That is why you should definitely be a computer.

So, what do you choose?

Lock Down!

Kia Ora Bloggers! It is Monday the 23rd of August and we are in horrible lock down! Ok, so lock down might help stop the spread of covid, but it really sucks. It is sooo boring. No friends to play with, no seeing other family members. No going to fun places. And worst of all... NO TAKEAWAYS! It is super horrible, sad and boring even though it stops a virus spreading. The good thing is, there are ways to contact friends and family members. THE PHONE! I can ring and text all... no most of my friends through the phone! I guess you could say that's one thing to be grateful for today. My phone! Any way, most of lock down I have been playing roblox on my chromebook. But because I have to wait until after 3:30 because I can't sign in to my phone account until half and hour after school ends, I was doing other things on my chromebook that were not roblox like... playing other games, doing work like recording motes on my slides and writing stories. Then at 3:30 I would sign into my home account. Want to see what I was working on? Well... Here is the slide I was putting motes on during the day.

1...2...3 UMBRELLA!

Kia Ora bloggers! This week we were writing about umbrella.

Umbrella

Early one drizzling morning, the door to Miss Elm’s Home For Children slowly opened wider and wider. The girl with the neon yellow umbrella, slowly entered the orphanage, looking at her surroundings curiously before finding a home for her umbrella. Not wanting to be seen, Boris speedily pulled his head around the door frame so that he was hidden from sight. Standing away from the others the girl stood there as the other kids joyfully searched through the box of old loved treasures. The girl smiled as she watched the little boy race round the room like a rocket. The girl's smile quickly vanished as she looked at the umbrella stand to see only puddles left. Her precious yellow umbrella had been stolen.

The Twins Visit Again!💖

Kia Ora Bloggers! Today is Saturday and I have my two cousins over to stay the night! They are  really fun and love hanging out with us just as much as we enjoy hanging out with them! Their names are Korbyn and Dillon. They are twins and both really nice girls! We all enjoy hanging out together at our new house. They are staying the night and we are really excited about it. So far we have just played heaps of games togther on and off devices. I love having friends and family over because it is really fun and they are all so nice. Me and Korbyn made little books out of sticky notes and put them on my bedroom wall for people to read. Dillon loves playing on my phone or in the cottage out the back of the house. Me and Dillon were playing the keyboard togther in my room and I learned a song for the school band that I am in. It is a little club on Wednesday morning tea times where a bunch of yer 5-8 students learn differnt instruments with Clarrie Light. We are all going to have a great time with Korbyn and Dillon over like always. Have you ever had your cousins stay the night?

Super Fun Statistics

Kia Ora Bloggers! My name is Quinn and today I will be sharing my maths with you. This week we have been focusing on Statistics. We have learning aout making graphs. You need to have your data to make a graph. What is data? It's information that you collected about a topic. For example your favourite fruit. Ask some people their favourite fruit with around five or more options and collect everyones answer in tallys. We did a few different topics but I am going to show the one with all of Tumu's birthday months. Because this would take a while to collect the data we did it all at once together. Once we had our data, we went and made a graph on a Google Sheet. We had to make two different styles of graphs and make two statements about each of them. Here are the two graphs that I made.

Magical Margaret Mahy

On Thursday the 20th of May Tumu Hub went to the Margaret Mahy Playground. First I looked at the traditional Maori mats. They were really interesting because lots of work was put into them with bricks. Each mat has a different story and meaning behind it. Then we went down to the river to feed the tuna. We fed them in smaller groups so it wasn’t crowded. We had to wait until the waka wasn’t there and then we could feed them. When it came to my turn I grabbed a spoon and reached down to feed the tuna. There was only one Tuna down at the river and it was swimming really low so it couldn’t see the food on top of the water.

After we had finished, we went on the Waka. We grabbed a paddle and practised the commands and we sang E Minaka Ana. After doing a lap of the river we did a race. We were ahead but they turned around early so they won but really we would have. After the waka we went down to Victoria Square. There we looked at the pou and maori designs all around and we had a snack. We did a quick drawing of the pou so we could remember what it looked like and we went to the next rotation.

The next rotation was looking at Margaret Mahy Playground and it’s story. We looked at the carvings in the path and everything they mean. Then we got paper and a crayon and we traced over carvings in the path by holding the crayon on it’s side and rubbing over it. After that we gathered as a group and had a talk about the day and how we could thank the parents for their help. We also thanked the teachers for organizing this trip. To say a big thank you to the parents and teachers we sang E Minaka Ana and Mila spoke on behalf of the hub. Then we went back to school after a wonderful day at Magret Mahy Playground.

My favourite part of the trip was going on the waka because I liked paddling and it was fun being able to go on a waka because I haven’t ever been on one before. I liked singing E Minaka Ana and saying HE HA as we paddled.

Something I learnt was that some of the playground is actually shaped as a certain thing like the climbing frame is one of the boats that the first settlers came in and the hill with the slide coming down is the port hills.

The thing I found the most interesting was that the playground is shaped to look like things from the past like big ships and port hills. I think it is interesting because people wouldn’t always think that is what it really is and when kids play they already have boats and hills to play on.

This trip has helped me with my PBL because I found out more about the playground and what it means and also heaps more about maori patterns and how things were made. I also found things out about tuna and mats around christchurch. The trip was really interesting and the things I found out were really cool. I loved this trip.

What did you find the most interesting about what I have learned on this trip?

Top Secret Re Investigation

Kia Ora Bloggers,

For Re we were learning way to keep our trust and faith in God. To show the ideas we have come up with we made a vine and wrote down all of our ideas in a creative way on the vine. Most people made a grape vine and so did I. The teachers thought that I made a really good vine so they showed the whole hub. After lot's of people were saying that it was really good which I liked. My vine took a lot of thinking because I made a lot of grapes on it but I got it done in the end. Here is the vine that I made for this weeks Re task.

What are some ways you can keep faith in Jesus?

Graphic Novel War

Kia Ora Bloggers,

Today I am going to show you my graphic novel about war. Me and some of my friends created this for a task we had to do and I am going to show it to you. I am very proud of the graphic novel we have created because I think it is very creative and I love making animations and using google slides. The things we found quite hard were who was going to do what but in the end we got it all figured out and we got the slide finished. At the end we decided to make a summary so the reader knows exactly what it is about. My favourite bit about making this slide show was that I got to work with my friends and we got to create something together. If I didn't have help from my friends then I wouldn't be able to create anything like this. Every piece of work I do I ask my friends if there is something I could change or even just help for decoration. Here is the slide me and my friends made about war.

I did Kōhia Mānia Korokio and Rātā. I recreated the plant on a google slide. These days spys use those fancy online tools. Anyway my big spy boss gave me a goal. He also gave me a week to do it but I forgot to do it and the long weekend got it the way as well. I guess I should have done a little bit more work before the long holiday. I only started it today and finished it today so I hope you enjoy my work. Goal: Articulate a variety of strategies to help comprehension and use knowledge from text to combine with new idea (own and others) to come up with new thinking.

My Marvelous Venn Diagram

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog. Today I will show you my venn diagram. A venn diagram is when you have two circles and a joined bit in the middle. In the middle you write somethings the two things you are writing about have in common and on the sides you write what they have oppisite or not the same. You could write about a cat and a dog. On the dog side you might write it barks and on the cat side you could write it purrs. Then in the middle you could write they are both domestic animals. Then you would have the things that they have in common and the things that they have that are different. Here is the venn diagram that I created.

The Big Trip😍 Kelly Tarltons

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog. Today is the 3rd of febuary and I will be talking about Kelly Tarltons the second part of my big trip. The day before Kelly Tarltons was Rainbows End. I went on so many rides. The day before that we had a look around Auckland. We all got up nice and early to get ready for Kelly Tarltons. On the drive it was a bit hard to find the building because it looked pretty small because it goes underground which means it is pretty hard to see when you are driving past it. I spotted it without knowing that was it when we drove past it. We went in and there was a ramp to get down where the fun begins. The first bit there was no animals or sea creatures but there was a motherbike and a little tiny bus thing that we got photos in but then we saw cool animals as well as getting our picture taken. We went through a tunnel that felt like the bridge bit was going round and round but really it was a circle wall thing around us. We got out and we saw the penguins they were so cute but we were on the side where they swim not smile and wave. We didn't have a great veiw from where we were so we went around a bit so we could see better. And there the penguins were right there there was one really fat one that needed a brush but I don't think that will happen. We kept moving and we saw so many other cool creatures. We saw miny sharks. We saw turtles and sea horses. We even saw a giant squid. Kelly Tarltons was really cool but I bet you can't wait to hear about the next awesome activity. Can't wait to tell you more about The Big Trip😍 See Ya Quinn

My Big Trip😍 Rainbows End

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog. It is Tuesday the 2nd of Febuary and I am really excited to tell you about the big trip I went on. First we went to the airport and  had and hour and a half of a plane ride. I played on my phone and looked out the window talked to Elsha and Dad. They were the people in my half of the row. Then we landed at the ariport in Auckland. When we got there we got ready to have a look around Auckland. Something I noticed while we were driving around was that some of the bins were blue. I am not quite sure what the blue bin is for because I don't live in Auckland but I did get to stay for a few nights in an apartment building. It was really small but it fit us all in and that is the important bit. When we got to the apartment we went into the room and we played on our device. The next day was nice and sunny and we were all excited for Rainbows End! On the way we could see more of Auckland and as we got closer we saw the fear fall. The fear fall is a really tall tower that you fall from sitting in a seat tightly buckled in and you are pulled up and when you get to the top there is about a five second wait and then you drop super fast. Then we arrived and everthing was fine when we got there because it was nice and early so we didn't have to line up for anything but we stayed for the whole day so it got pretty busy but we had heaps of fun. I liked the roller coaster. My favourite bit is when we went upside down on the loops. There were three loops and they were all fun but the bit I didn't like about the roller coaster was when I was on the turns I kept banging my head and It was not very nice but the rest was awesome. I also liked the log flume the gold rush and the stratosphere. They were all very fun. Talk to you soon, Quinn!
